Resistors in Series Calculator

Calculate the total equivalent resistance (Req) of resistors connected in a series circuit configuration.

Enter resistor values (Ω) to calculate total series resistance

Equivalent Series Resistance:
Total Resistance (Ohms): 0.000 Ω
In Kilohms (kΩ): 0.000 kΩ
Active Resistor Count: 0

How to Use

  • Enter up to 4 resistor values in Ohms (Ω).
  • Leave empty any input fields you are not using.
  • Click CALCULATE to compute the total series equivalent resistance.

Series Circuit Characteristics

• The same current flows through every resistor in the series branch: I_total = I1 = I2 = I3.

• The total voltage drops across each resistor: V_total = V1 + V2 + V3.

Series Resistor Formula

In a series connection, total equivalent resistance is simply the sum of individual resistor values:

Rtotal = R1 + R2 + R3 + … + Rn

Connecting resistors in series always results in an equivalent resistance that is greater than any individual resistor in the chain.
