Voltage Divider Calculator
Calculate the output voltage (Vout) of a two-resistor voltage divider circuit based on input voltage (Vin) and resistance values R1 and R2.
Calculate output voltage using two resistors
Calculated Output:
Output Voltage (Vout):
0.000 V
Circuit Current (I):
0.000 mA
Divider Ratio:
0.000
How to Use
- Enter the total source input voltage (Vin).
- Enter the resistance value for R1 (connected to Vin) in Ohms.
- Enter the resistance value for R2 (connected to Ground) in Ohms.
- Click CALCULATE to obtain the output voltage tapped between R1 and R2.
Voltage Divider Formula
Vout = Vin × [ R2 / (R1 + R2) ]
A voltage divider produces an output voltage that is a fraction of its input voltage. It is commonly used in sensor interfacing, microcontroller ADC input level shifting (e.g. 5V to 3.3V), and bias networks.

Voltage Divider Parameter Table
| Parameter | Formula | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Output Voltage (Vout) | Vout = Vin × (R2 / (R1 + R2)) |
The output voltage across resistor R2. |
| Current Through Divider (I) | I = Vin / (R1 + R2) |
Quiescent current flowing through both series resistors. |
| Power Dissipation R1 | P1 = I² × R1 |
Heat power dissipated across resistor R1 in Watts. |
| Power Dissipation R2 | P2 = I² × R2 |
Heat power dissipated across resistor R2 in Watts. |
